Where do the cartoon ideas come from?

Ideas can come from the strangest of places.
The concept of drawing cartoons happened in about 2010. I was at work and getting breakfast at work. When I went to get a spoon I saw one spoon in the tray that looked really different. I picked it up and when I walked back to my desk I looked at the spoon and thought 'that's me that is' (random I know). And I felt compelled to draw it. And so my creative journey began.
What is art?
I’ve never had the idea that I want to be a good artist. I just have ideas that I want to share. Things I want to express. And the more simple I draw those messages the better. I want to make sense of the complex world I live in and drawing simple cartoons helps me with that. That's what art is to me: expression, understanding the world, communication, fun, sharing.
Do you have to be an artist to be an artist?
Some people are technical geniuses when it comes to art. I have no desire to be one of those people. I visit their work in galleries and stand in awe. For me art is something very different. It’s channeling energy, expression, transforming, submersive, expressive, meditative and utter bliss.
So where do those ideas come from?
My ideas spring from situations that happen in my life. I've never felt like the ideas are mine. I feel like they're given to me by a source, energy or power outside of myself. They feel like a gift to share. I've always felt it's my job to note down these ideas, create them and share them. So that's what I do. My favourite places to come up with ideas are on the toilet, in the bath and in bed in the middle of the night. They don’t come when I’m sitting trying to come up with an idea - they just hit me like a bolt of lightening out of nowhere.
SHARE AND BLOOM SAYS:
So many people tell me they can't draw and so don't. To me that's such a shame. As any creative process can be so healing and fulfilling. And besides, perfection is boring. If you feel inspired to take up a creative pursuit to help you bloom to your full potential, there's no time like the present.
