I've spent a lot of time pondering what my purpose is in this life.
Feeling drawn to have a wider purpose in life so that I can feel fulfilled. So I've been exploring my talents, skills and desires. Wondering what I should be doing with my life. And I know I'm not alone in this. So many people desire to know what their life purpose is but so many of them are baffled as to what that is.
And some people spend a lifetime on a quest to find this thing...and never feel like they've found it.
And I think that could have been me. Until this week. When I started listening to what Abraham Hicks had to say on the matter. She (being Esther Hicks, the voice of Abraham) has a number of responses to this enquiry.
In these two videos, she says that we are not born into a purpose that will sustain us forever more but rather we are born into a purposeful life. She says it's not about finding one singular specific purpose. But rather that our purpose ultimately is joy. It is about who we are and how we feel, not what we do. In her words:
"I came to know who I am
I came for that feeling of home coming
I came to revel with others
I came to have a really good time
I came to feel inspired
I came to understand my guidance
I came to feel negative emotion
I came to feel positive emotion
I came to remember who I am
I came for the joy of expansion
I came for the interest of life"
"You’re not here to create things. Although you will. You’re not here to create circumstances, although you do. You’re here to explore your environment for the evolution of you."
"It’s not a purpose but a steady stream of purposes for as far as you allow yourself to go."
This has been such a relief for me to hear. It has completely shifted my focus. To have a purpose to seek and have joy in life's moments where I can. To live life 'just for the joy of winking at someone'. Purpose will come to me, I no longer have to seek it. Experiencing joy is purpose enough.
The joy of walking in nature. Of laughing with friends. Of creating art. Of singing out of tune in my car. Of waking up after sleeping for 10 hours. Of hugging my mum. All of these are purpose enough.
Time to stop seeking and start just simply enjoying.
Finally, I've found my many life purposes. Which will continue to blossom and unfold.
